Breeding Honest, Hardworking Golden Retrievers from British Lines for Over 40 Years

Here at Doubleuse Kennel, our love for Golden Retrievers has guided us through more than four decades of dedicated work. We aim to raise sound, versatile, and steady-tempered dogs that still honour the original purpose of the breed, as reliable working dogs and faithful family friends. We’re based in the Swedish countryside but warmly welcome folks from near and far. We’ve helped many happy families abroad bring home a pup from us.

My name is Gunilla Wedeen, and I started Doubleuse Kennel back in 1989. The name “Doubleuse” came from a play on my surname, along with the idea that our dogs are suited both for the field and as family dogs. Since then, we’ve raised over 700 pups, many of whom have gone on to shine as hunting dogs, in obedience trials, tracking, rescue work, and even as a landmine detection dog in Mozambique.

What began as a simple interest in working retrievers has grown into a full-time way of life, breeding, training, and sharing this passion with dog lovers across Sweden and further afield.

What Makes Our Dogs Special

Our field bred Golden Retrievers are known for being:

        They thrive both as loyal companions and as capable workers in hunting, rescue, and service settings.

        Our Breeding Philosophy

        Breeding, to us, isn’t just about pairing two dogs with good titles. It’s about knowing our lines, planning carefully, and always putting health and soundness first.

        • We use linebreeding thoughtfully, to keep the qualities we value most.
        • Every breeding dog is health-tested to help ensure strong, sound pups.
        • We breed with the future in mind, selecting dogs not just for titles but for good mentality, working ability and will to please.

        While some prefer outcrossing to avoid inbreeding, we believe well-informed linebreeding creates predictability, quality, and long-term vitality. We do occasionally introduce new lines to keep the gene pool robust, but always with careful planning.

        One of our proudest stories is that of Doubleuse January, who served as a certified mine-detection dog in Mozambique.

        Puppies & Planning

        We do welcome interest from overseas. If you’re thinking about a pup from us, here’s how it works:

        • We keep a waiting list for upcoming litters
        • We like to speak with each family to be sure it’s a good fit
        • We help with export documents, vaccines, and travel arrangements

        Each pup is raised with care, and we stay in touch to offer support long after they’ve left us.
